Ethereum Coders Approve 6 Changes for Upcoming Istanbul Hard Fork

Ethereum core developers finalized late Thursday a list of six different code changes to be activated for ethereum’s next system-wide upgrade, Istanbul.

As agreed in prior meetings, Istanbul will be executed in two parts. The first, which will feature all six code changes, or ethereum improvement proposals (EIPs), is tentatively expected to execute on ethereum mainnet this October.

The second, which is scheduled for mainnet activation sometime in the first quarter of next year, will feature EIPs requiring further testing and deliberation from core developers. Those include a proposed mining algorithm change called “ProgPoW.”

Speaking of the two-part structure of the Istanbul upgrade, core developer Péter Szilágyi said on Thursday’s call:

“We split Istanbul into two. One of them we can actually ship within weeks. [The other contains] two really big EIPs that would be nice to have but require some stuff that cannot be done within the two- or three-week timespan.”

How Coders Hacked Back to ‘Rescue’ $208 Million in Ethereum

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 89%. (I'm a bot)
On Monday morning, the group was in possession of $86 million USD worth of other people's ether, and $122 million in tokens-the digital assets that are sold off in Initial Coin Offerings, fundraising events that have raised millions in mere minutes.
The online group of high-profile ethereum developers, which included Taylor Monahan, founder of popular ethereum wallet MyEtherWallet, was hard at work pinning down the problem and formulating a solution.
After hackers took advantage of a bug of the DAO's code to siphon away $53 million worth of ether, de Sande formed a small group of ethereum developers to hack back and rescue the remaining ether in the DAO by siphoning it out into a "White hat" account.
The unexpected happened: Vitalik Buterin, ethereum's inventor and chief scientist of the Ethereum Foundation, elected to split ethereum into two versions in order to completely wipe out the damage the DAO hackers had done.
A message on the White Hat Group's ethereum wallet asks affected user so be patient, and shows it contains nearly $85 million USD in ether, and even more in tokens Screengrab: Etherscan.io.
The amount of funds in ether and tokens in the White Hat Group's account has only gone up over the past week-$200 million is nothing to sniff at, and people want their virtual money back.

Is ProgPOW being snuck in? There's a "proposal" of a mining algorithm change, according to Coindesk

Here is the link by Coindesk claiming that progpow is might get pushed through without the blessing of our community.
Kristy-Leigh Minehan a.k.a. @OhGodAGirl is an extraordinary person, she deserves praise for her support of the Ethereum network. So I say this with all due respect.
But she cannot be allowed to hijack the governance process. She has a massive GPU farm and has been pushing progpow because it would hurt her bottom line.
GPU miners come in droves and try to make it appear like this is a good idea. I think we need to have a conversation about it, before this is just pushed through randomly. Does this enhance scaling? No? Then why is it being pushed through?
94.3% of Bitmain's sales came from selling hardware. They're not mining, @OhGodAGirl has a huge mining farm, and she's trying to undermine the governance process to kill the competition and fill out her bottom line. She has convinced the developers. The last holdout are the original investors. I'm more than happy with competition in the form of ASICs, that's the inevitable end point of proof-of-work. We end up at hardware level optimization, that's what happened to Bitcoin. That's what will happen to Ethereum until we switch to proof-of-stake. We don't change the protocol on account of @OhGodAGirl, we don't make major changes in order to satisfy @OhGodAGirl's mining farm.
Here is the EIP process, being hijacked, sign up, read, and state your opinion:

Everyday Blockchain News:Software Providers Embrace Blockchain

https://preview.redd.it/6bto4isdhqw01.jpg?width=760&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aaa33e300dcdac69b13d58926480ad90f17a104c
This month, Oracle Corp will present its platform-as-a-service blockchain product, making it the most recent software company to enter the blockchain industry.
The company will follow up next month with blockchain based apps, according to Thomas Kurian, the company’s president of product development. Kurian said the new product will be compatible with other platforms, according to Bloomberg.
Oracle is teaming with Banco de Chile to log interbank transactions on Hyperledger, Kurian said.
The company is also working with Nigeria’s government in its efforts to document customs and import duties using blockchain technology.
Going forward, Oracle plans to solicit pharmaceutical companies which need to track and trace batches of medicine, as a way to alleviate the burdens of product recalls.

Software Providers Embrace Blockchain

Several software companies have sought to use blockchain technology to simplify processes.
Amazon Inc.’s cloud unit and International Business Machines Corp. have both explored blockchain technology for enterprise uses.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced blockchain templates for Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric, providing a fast and easy way to create and deploy secure blockchain networks with open source frameworks. The AWS templates allow users to deploy Ethereum and Hyperledger frameworks with certified AWS CloudFormation templates. Users can focus on building blockchain applications rather than spending time and energy on the manual setup of their blockchain network.
Victor Wong, BlockApps CEO, a Microsoft affiliate designed to provide an enterprise blockchain toolkit to help businesses develop new functionalities, in 2015 cited Oracle’s role as a database provider as a parallel to BlockApp’s role providing tools such as smart contracts for businesses to use to create new functionalities.
Microsoft in 2016 partnered with an Ethereum-based startup, ConsenSys, to deliver blockchain as an enterprise solution for clients of its cloud-based Azure service. ConsenSys is an Ethereum-coder collective that will allow enterprise users on Azure to access Ethereum Blockchain-as-a-Service (E BaaS).
IBM started working on a blockchain project several years ago by forming a unit solely dedicated to the technology with more than 1,500 employees.
Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce.com Inc., said in March he hoped to introduce a blockchain product this fall at its Deamforce conference.

Ethereum Live Coders?

I suspect that I'm not the only one with a bit more time on their hands for watching things, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any live coders in the ecosystem, bonus points for a curated list of them. I don't really care what aspect of the ecosystem. It could be EVM compilers, dApp development, client building, whatever.
Does anyone have information about this?

What are the best ways for non-coders to help the Ethereum community right now?

I wanted to open a conversation and get some feedback on the question above. I think there may be a lot of people in the Ethereum community who may not be savvy coders but are interested in helping the community in other ways.. Are there some resources that have been created/organized for non-coders to use their strengths to help support the Ethereum ecosystem? What other forms of participation would you recommend that could strengthen the community and Ethereum's overall vision?

In practice, Solidity is the most widespread programming language for Ethereum smart contracts. It is Ethereum’s native and was specially designed for this platform. Although there are several other official recommendations, like LLL or Viper, they are limited to particular preferences. If you have delved into Ethereum development, no doubt that you have come across terms such as ICOs, Metamask, Remix, and Smart Contracts. Some companies use Smart Contracts to try out a network… For the beginners, you'll walk you through the parts of Ethereum, coding basics, the software development life cycle, and everything you need to know to create your very own dApp, or decentralized application; For the more experienced, you can skip right to where you code your own smart contract using Solidity Ethereum is open access to digital money and data-friendly services for everyone – no matter your background or location. It's a community-built technology behind the cryptocurrency Ether (ETH) and thousands of applications you can use today. Inspired by the Mozilla Developer Network, we thought Ethereum needed a place to house great developer content and resources.Like our friends at Mozilla, everything here is open-source and ready for you to extend and improve.
